The Summer to Autumn Switch

As the days slowly get shorter, the mornings get slowly a bit chillier, and even the hardcore sun worshipper (like me) can’t justify strappy tops every day any more, you know it’s time to start thinking about switching up your wardrobe. Before you do, here’s a few things to think about…

Never underestimate the weather - I mean the summer has hardly been ‘summer’ has it?! So there’s every chance Mother Nature will throw us some curveballs over the coming weeks. That means don’t pack away your summer things completely just yet, you may well still need them! And don't forget your toe nails - just in case!!
As you’re working your way through summer items to put away, make sure they are washed before you put them away - nobody wants to find evidence of last summer’s BBQ on their favourite top when they’re dressing next year!
You can still layer up lots of what you’ve been wearing over the summer or mix and match summer with A/W styles to make those items work hard for you over the next few months - for example:

Wear summer dresses or maxi skirts with tights / boots / long sleeves tops underneath / jumpers
Chunky sandals go great with trousers and jeans, so you can keep those toes out a little longer
It’s fab to see that bright colours remain on trend as we go into A/W, keeping that uplifting summery feel alive! Mix with the beautiful warm neutrals that are also big this season for a lovely rich look.
Lightweight jackets will really come back into their own again at this time of year

Blazers are great in both smart and casual outfits - they’re not just for work
Denim jackets never go out of style and are useful at almost all times of the year
Puffer jackets will be back this winter, but you might find a lighter, quilted version is a great item right now
Knitwear is great for layering, particularly handy at this time of year and can be paired up with your lighter summer items to create fab autumn looks.
Finally, if you come across items that you haven’t worn all year, and you know it’s because they just don’t feel right any more, consider giving them away - it’s so much better for someone who loves them to be wearing them, than for them to stay in your wardrobe unused.
